Winter in Bryce Canyon National Park is one of those seasons that are harsh, yet almost perfect. Crowds are gone for the most part and you have most of the scenes like these to yourself. The only thing you have to deal with is the bitter cold and making a conscious effort to not slip on the snow and ice and end up in the bottom of the canyon. Overall though, it's worth it. This particular morning was cold. There was snow on the ground but no fresh snow. I waited out the early morning hours at this viewpoint for the sun to crest over the horizon and begin the daily task of illuminating the towering hoodoos in the canyon. The contrast of the red sandstone walls, the bright white snow, and the creeping sunlight made it all worth it.
