Desert Form

While the canyon country of Utah offers striking red sandstone views that stretch out as far as you can see, sometimes the contrast and simplicity of a black and white image makes those canyons stand out even more. This is a well-known viewpoint in the South-Central canyon country near Canyonlands National Park in Utah. It is an epic view to say the least. This particular morning I woke before sunrise and made the short hike from my nearby camping spot in the freezing cold. As the sun slowly began to creep up over the plateau, the canyon walls started to light up. No one around. Just silence. Looking at the image afterwards and the sandstone just had a contrast to it that made you see all the little cracks and crevices that have been created in these walls. It was a perfect fit for a monochrome image to focus on those details along with the vast canyons and cliffs.
